You can use portable radar detectors without any installation: they are attached to the windscreen with a bracket, usually powered via the 12 V socket, and can be moved to another vehicle in a few simple steps. They pick up radar signals, many models also laser pulses, and report a detected source by display, warning tone or voice announcement. Many devices also have a GPS database that points out fixed measuring systems.

What to look for when choosing: How well does the device filter false alarms, for example those triggered by the driver assistance systems of modern vehicles? Does it also detect newer measuring systems such as MultaRadar and Gatso? How legible is the display, is there a German voice announcement, and can the database be updated?
